‘The Courtyard.’
This was the first project where I discovered my passion for community architecture. The Courtyard, Portrush was a sustainable living education center and exhibition space.
Based on the north coast of Northern Ireland, the brief for this project was a temporary education centre, cafe and exhibition space all set in Port Rush, right on the sea front. The site provided some challenge as it covered a steep slope and key wall.
The inspiration for the “sheds” arranged in a group to create connection between the separate spaces came from early Irish settlements.
Each “shed” contained a different space, to create an experience for tourist and educational purposes alike. “The Courtyard” was a center for eco friendly living and learning to live sustainability.
Within this scheme in first year, I also discovered my love for model making as a communication tool. Selling my schemes through model making has informed my work ever since.
