‘The Shipyard.’
My community library, The Shipyard, will specialise in being a space for those with special education needs, in particular those with dyslexia. Everyone should be encouraged to read and more importantly to enjoy reading.
Designing for special educational needs is one of the great privileges of architecture. Being able to make someone's life easier or place them in a space where they feel supported is a joy. Special educational needs will be designed into the project which will aim to support from all angles.
The spaces will include testing rooms and spaces for private tuition for those who need it. There will be provisions for voice to text study spaces. There will be an emphasis on the joy of books rather than just traditional reading with spaces like an audiobook library.
Libraries are there for those who love of books and should be accessible for everyone even those for whom reading isn’t as easy.
